Biography

Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, she escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army. She was the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, the Combahee River Raid, which liberated more than 700 enslaved people.

Philosophy

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger. When you hear the dogs, keep going. When you see the torches, keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.
